‘bevi troppo,’ she said,
pouring herself another glass of liquid ochre.
her smile matched
the curve of the glass;
a fire burned in my throat
and for a moment,
watching her,
i considered switching to red.
but enough is never enough
and the sun, swallowed,
continues to smolder.
